Papers, 1949-1952.

Collection primarily concerns the design, patenting and marketing of a tobacco curing apparatus sold by Bright Leaf Industries of Charlotte, N.C. Three main categories are correspondence, printed materials, and miscellany. The correspondence contains letters to and from Gilder Horne and Richard C. Horne, who wrote to Bright Leaf about the marketing of the machine in Canada, and the patenting of what appears to be an updated version. The original machine was designed by Gilder S. Horne, although the new version may have received improvements from Richard C. Horne. The printed material includes brochures used to market the machine, a copy of the patent, and drawings of its construction. The miscellany papers include hand-drawn designs and written descriptions of the machine.
